Journey to Parnassus
This site is about my journey to become a better guitar player. I'm going to document the progress here and on the YouTube channel.
When I was younger, I wanted to become a musician, but hand injuries derailed that goal. During the pandemic, I started to be able to play a little again, and now I'm trying to practice in a way that doesn't reinjure my hands.
Goals
These are my goals, starting in August 2025:
- Become great at sight reading — I can already read music, but not very quickly.
- NO TABLATURE! — I can read tablature, but whenever I see it on the page, my eye tends to drift over to it, even when I'm trying to read the music, because the tablature is just easier to read. If a book or resource has tablature, my plan is to edit it out. I want to eliminate guitar tablature from my life, because it has slowed down my progress with sightreading.
- Fully know the fretboard — I've learned the notes of the fretboard, but I don't know all scales and chords everywhere.
- Ear training — I have a few ear training apps that I'm using for this.
- Music composition — I've written many snippets of music but haven't turned them into complete songs yet.

The name of the site comes from Mount Parnassus — the mythical home of the muses and the counterpoint book, Gradus ad Parnassum.
